Description
The ARP 2600 uses 40 ohm speakers which are much harder to find than the common 8 or 4 ohm speakers used today. And unfortunately the voice coils in the original ARP 2600 speakers tend to break over time. Until now the solution was to risk sending your original speakers to an overpriced, unreliable, and slow re-coning service in an attempt to repair them. Now for a fraction of the cost of reconing the original speakers, you can more conveniently and quickly replace them with new ones!
These speaker retrofits have the same impedance and frequency response as the originals, and fit the same screw holes as the original, so no modifications need to be made to the 2600. They have a different shape and different dimensions as the original speaker, but you will only notice a difference if you look at the inside of the synth.
I include some spare screws in the event a head gets stripped removing the old ones, or a longer one is needed. Feedback on the speakers themselves has been good. Feedback on the installation process from the techs that have installed them has been that it has been a bit fiddly and that sometimes sometimes the holes on the speakers (not the ARP 2600) need to be modified to accommodate the install. I agree with their feedback and feel the need to disclose that the install will not be as simple as screwing in the original speakers–so please be aware of this when considering this product.
