Description
The Sequential Circuits TOM Drum Machine stores patterns and songs in memory with the use of a battery backup. Unfortunately the battery is soldered to the board and not easy to change. It’s also not a cheap battery that’s easy to find at the local drugstore. Also, the original 40 year old CMOS RAM chips are failure prone and memory retention issues are very common on these machines.
Enter the Synthchaser Battery Eliminator module! These modules replace the original memory chip(s) and don’t need a battery to save the data, much like a flash drive! The original memory chip is soldered to the board, so desoldering/soldering is required for installation. Machine pin sockets are included if you wish to socket it. If you’re not comfortable installing these, installation services are available.
With the version 1.4 or above firmware EPROM, the TOM can be expanded from 2,300 step memory up to 10,000 step memory with the addition of 3 more memory modules into factory populated IC sockets. You only need 1 Battery Eliminator module to be able to ditch the battery, but while you’re at it, I highly recommend getting a pack of 4 modules, to not only eliminate the battery, but to max out your TOM’s memory.
