LM301 Op Amp IC Chip DIP-8 Compatible Package

Description

The LM301AN op-amp in DIP-8 package is found in all ARP and many other vintage synthesizers.   Unfortunately, the through hole version of this IC chip was discontinued in 2018 and is now obsolete.  While there are many other pin compatible op-amp IC chips, some vintage synthesizer circuits rely on the characteristics of the specific op-amps with which they were designed.  As such, our preference is to replace op-amps with the same part as the original, whenever possible.  Purchasing obsolete chips from a vendor other than an authorized distributor is a sketchy business–some people sell fake/blacktopped chips (which may be used or even completely different parts) and others sell ancient chips (would you really want to replace a failed 1970’s IC with one equally as old?).

Fortunately the LM301 is still available as a surface mount chip.  We’ve soldered these new surface mount chips (purchased from Mouser, an authorized distributor) to DIP-8 adapters.  They come with breakaway machine pin headers which you will need to solder to the board.  As of 2021, we ship these with all IC kits calling for LM301.
