Description
2023 Update: Alfa Rpar now produces a pre-adapted version of their AS3372 chip, “AS3372-HYB”. While I do not stock these modules, I recommend them as replacements for the CEM3372 instead of my adapter approach offered here. I am leaving this product available to purchase for the benefit of those who have purchased AS3372E chips and wish to use their remaining stock.
This is a pair of PCBs that can be assembled to form an adapter to use the Alfa Rpar AS3372E IC chip in place of the CEM3372 IC chip. CEM3372 is a VCF/Mixer/VCA on a single chip and is found in various vintage synths including:
- Akai AX80
- Rhodes Chroma Polaris
- Oberheim Matrix 12
- Oberheim Xpander
- Sequential Circuits Prophet 600
- Sequential Circuits Prophet T8
- Simmons SDS7
- Simmons SDS8
Assembly of this adapter is fiddly, and because the AS3372E has more pins than the CEM3372, this adapter extends down below the bottom of where the CEM3372 would normally stop. The adapter also sits higher than an IC chip, so check for clearance in your desired application (this does not fit under the keybed of the Prophet 600). Includes pair of PCBs and assembly suggestions only – requires good soldering skills and patience, AS3372E IC chip, 2.54mm male headers (both standard and machine pin recommended), and optional 24 pin DIP socket all of which are not included. I do not offer this product assembled (as shown in the photo above the PCB set) or any materials other than the PCBs. This is not a super elegant solution, but when necessity dictates, sometimes things like this must be done!
