Description
I designed this upgrade for the ARP Omni 1, Omni 2 and Quadra synthesizers after repairing a customer’s ARP Omni 2 where a shorted component in the master oscillator section destroyed his out-of-production top octave generator chip. I frequently find burned resistors in the master oscillator section of the synthesizer.
This module replaces the primitive master oscillator designed comprised of 12 highly failure prone components, including the archaic “tuning coil”. ARP borrowed this design from the Solina String Ensemble, and the design was already decades too “old school” back then in the 70’s.
Recently I used this module to save an Omni where an incompetent tech had lifted many solder pads trying to repair a fault in this highly failure prone section of the synthesizer, and another where the tuning coil had been irreparably damaged.
