Description

Here’s your chance to own one of the first ARP 2600’s ever made–the coveted “Grey Meanie”.  Before the “Tonus Logo” ARP 2600’s housed in a tolex case, ARP made 34 of these Grey Meanie synthesizers in 1971, housed in a unique trapezoidal case.  This includes the matching 3604 keyboard controller and power cord.

The synthesizer is being offered unserviced and in need of repair as it currently stands for $45,000 or optionally repaired and serviced by Synthchaser for $55,000.  Online ordering of this synthesizer is not available.  Please contact us if you are interested in purchasing it.

This synthesizer contains the following modules (all genuine vintage ARP modules, and all modules have been tested to be operational)

  • 2x 4017 VCO
  • 1x 4027 VCO
  • 4012 VCF
  • 4010 VCA
  • 4014 Ring Modulator
  • 4015 Sample And Hold
  • P2604 Board 4-1 ADSR (pre-submodule number!)
  • 4016 Noise

The synthesizer is in decent condition, with scratches to the case and marks on the wooden handle.  The synthesizer has several broken slider shafts, though in most cases the sliders are still operational.  The synthesizer was tested for basic functionality and most functionality is operational with the exception  of the keyboard controller, envelope follower, voltage processors, and AR slider (though the AR itself is operational).  The synthesizer requires a thorough servicing by a skilled repair tech.  The synthesizer is being offered as-is in its current state if you want to do it yourself or take it to your preferred tech, or optionally repaired and serviced here by Synthchaser (a top ARP repair specialist).

Friendly reminder that the ARP 2600 uses Tini-D jacks, which are a slightly larger diameter than standard 3.5mm patch cords.  The synthesizer was tested with Tini-D patch cords (not included).  While 3.5mm patch cords will often work, their connection will be less reliable than Tini-D patch cords.  These cables can be purchased from Buchla.
